This Tuesday the 16th of February we’ll be playing in Palmers Green at the recently opened Live Room (236 Green Lanes). For those in the area, doors open at 8pm and we hit the stage at 10.15pm. If you can’t make it down, the concert is being streamed live from the Live Room website. Should be loads of fun and we’re doing a full 45 minute set. Check it out (virtually or for real) if you can!

First show of the year

After a long summer break (or winter depending on which hemisphere you’ve been in), I’ll be playing my first show of the year tonight at the cosy World’s End in Finsbury Park. Entry is free and the brilliant Mehmet Raif will be joining me on bass guitar. Do drop in if you’re in the neighbourhood!

It’s been a massive year for us, our first on the London scene, so a huge thanks to everyone who has shown their support. Our last London show for 2009 was on Thursday the 26th at the Camden Rock (see the photos) where we officially welcomed the brilliant Rhys Antony Owen to the line-up on saxophone. Thanks to all who made it down, and we’ll see you all again in the new year!

In the lead up to the release of the second Simplists EP, you can now grab a free download of my previous release The Fragile Escape / Butterflies EP which came out in 2006 when I was part of the roots band Dusk. In addition to the original 5 tracks, there is also an internet only version of Slave played live on RTRFM in Perth on Sunday 4th June 2006. Enjoy!

The Simplists welcome Marv-ill

The brilliant London beatboxer Marv-ill has joined Mehmet Raif on bass guitar as part of the expanding Simplists line-up. After making a guest appearance at the East Barnet Festival, Marv will be making his official debut this Friday at the Blag Club in Notting Hill.

If you’re from the northern suburbs, we’ll be appearing at this years East Barnet Festival at 1.45pm on Saturday the 4th of July (the festival runs from the 3rd to the 5th of July in Oak Hill Park). It’s a huge community festival with a funfair, music stage, dance marquee, bars, stalls, food fair, and theatre productions, and entry is free.

Oxjam Music Festival

I’m proud to announce that we will be part of the Oxjam Music Festival this Saturday the 20th of June in support of Oxfam. It’s a festival with a difference, and a chance to help fight poverty with music. This particularly event is being held at the World’s End in Finsbury Park, and features a stellar lineup from 2pm including Silverfall, Clara Belle, Ed Sheeran, The Dirty Feel, Berenice, Kal Lavelle, Susy Thomas, The Daylight Faded, and The Skanx. Entry is just a £3 donation to Oxjam!

Slashed Seat Affair album launch

Wake Your Soul videos on the horizon

I’m thrilled to report that two outstanding filmmakers are currently working on videos for tracks from the Wake Your Soul EP. Upcoming documentary and surf filmmaker Rohan Irvin (Boys of Summer Productions) shot scenes for Paper Junkie at Avila Beach when I was in California recently. And the award winning animation genius Maia Tarrell (D.I.Y Art Films) has just started work on a stop motion video for Wake Your Soul. Both should be finished in the coming months!
